Soccer

So the last few weeks have ben intereesting to way the least. It was great having Amy around again. She's back in Idaho for the next few weeks before she moves back for work. My social life has been kind of dead since the holidays. I've still got all of Bernie's camping equipment that I need to return to him but I haven't seen him for several weeks.

I'm in some sort of way a professional dancer now. I had my first paying gig last night. It was a USO themed send-off for a kid who just joined the navy. It was a great party that wasn't. It was very well planned, but 20 somethings aren't typically that good at being fun, just drunk. There was alcohol being served, but not enough to lubricate people so that they would lose their stiffness. So it ended up being kind of boring, which was unfortunate since it had so much potential. The problem was that I ended up getting wound up by the end of it and couldn't stop moving. It was like I was a spastic child. I guess that's the downside of being in shape with a fast metabolism. I've got energy to burn and sometimes have trouble shutting down. I went to bed late and woke up a few timesduring the night as well, so I'm running on about 4 hours of good sleep.

Soccer has been a bit disappointing. We played our big rival and lost 0-1 on a very bogus penalty kick. The thing is, we deserved to lose. We had more skill, but our mid field did such a lousy job that the game was terrible to watch. I was subbing guys in and out like crazy to try and find some who would play their position, make the simple runs, and actually pass to our guys rather than the other team, but such a player was not to be found. They played so far below the level they are capable of. They've been hearing it from my assistant and I over the last few weeks concerning their effort in practice, and hopefully this game was a bit of a wake-up call. The problem is that now we're in a huge hole to try and win league. I've got weekend games for the next 3 weeks so they'd better start playing smarter and better or I'm going to be really cheesed about giving up my Saturdays for bad soccer.

On another soccer note, how ridiculous is it that David Beckham is going to be making 50mil a year to play for the LA galaxy. I have trouble believing he's worth it, but I think MLS is counting on him to start a soccer revolution. It is the #1 kid participated sport in this country up until late mid-school age, so it could happen.
