Summer Saturday

I think this is the first Saturday I've been home since school ended. I'm totally unmotivated to do much of anything. I alternatingly remember and then forget that I need to do dishes. I'm also having an internal debate over going running vs lifting at the gym. In the end, I'll probably do nothing.

So I found out that within my circle of friends, Hawaii may be the relationship kiss of death. A few weeks ago two couples involved with the swing team went to Hawaii together or not together, but at any rate they were there in the same place at the same time and spend some time together. I found out today when we were having a birthday lunch get together at The Cheesecake Factory, that they have both broken up. The good part I guess is that it was due to simply wanting different things out of life, rather than one or both of them being jerks, idiots, psychotic, etc. At any rate, I will not be going to Hawaii with anyone I'm dating.

On a completely unrelated note, I've had a thing for internet radio for the last year or so. I listen to a lot of non popular music (swing, old blues, bluegrass) and it's always hard finding stuff. Up until a few weeks ago I listened at Live365.com. It's similar to the music station on digital cable. They play a preprogrammed list within a small genre of music. A coworker turned me on to Pandora.com. The idea is that they have identified characterisics of songs that they term genes. You start by identifying a few songs or artists and they play what they term similar music. You can refine it by clicking like or don't like buttons, and it narrows the songs it plays down to fit your prefernces. For example, the current song is playing because it features a "swing dancin' style, a groove oriented approach, and major tonality" I have also selected other songs by the same artist. So I get to listen to music tailored to my tastes. I currently have three stations, one that plays dance swing music, one that blues acoustic blues, and one that plays mellow acoustic rock.
