If you have been watching the news at all, you know that the midwest and east are in the grips of a heat wave. What you may not know is how well we timed our move to coincide with it. The day we left California the heat started tracking across the southwest through Texas. Lucky for us, this is the way we were going. So our cross country drive was accompanied by the advance of the heat wave. We arrived in Louisville with muggy conditions in the upper 90s and heat indexes up into the 110+ range. Since arriving a week ago we have had one cool day, which means the temperature only hit 92 and the heat index was in the upper 90s. If the weather follows the extended forecast, by the time this is all over in a week or more, Louisville will have broken its record for the number of consecutive days above 90 degrees. And of course, it's not just the heat, it's the humidity. Overnight lows are running in the upper 70s to low 80s because the dew point is so high.
I realize that for those of you who have lived in Texas, this may seem relatively mild, but for someone who wore a jacket through most of last summer, it's tough just remembering to drink enough water and keep the electrolyte levels up when working outside. With morning and evening soccer practices, I've been showering a couple of times a day. In truth, the weather hasn't been too miserable because we have air conditioning in both the apartment and car. When outside, I've found I am able to keep cool, but it's only because I am sweating enough to soak a shirt in just a few minutes.
We are getting boxes unpacked and Amun is slowly adjusting, though he does spend a lot of the day hiding under the sheet on the bed. Collyn is setting up her writing area. We are slowly getting things changed over, such as bank accounts, cars, etc. We have gone out dancing a few times, found a nearby Saturday farmer's market, and are planning to attend the weekly community concert in the park on Sunday.

Glad to hear that the three of you are adjusting, though it may be slowly for some of you in various areas. Hope it cools soon.
You'll adjust...but welcome to the mid-west and east, and just remember that this summer is unusual. The whole time we were in CA the hottest it got was 78 degrees, (in an area that usually sees upper 90s this time of year) and meanwhile, back at W.P. it was the upper 90s.
Glad you guys are settling in. Don't say I didn't warn you about the heat. The good thing about the midwest is that although it's normally hot and stick, it usually only lasts 3-5 days before a storm system comes through and cools things down for a few days. That's what I've come to hate about D.C. Although it's not as hot here, there's no respite for 3 months straight. It's low to mid 90's for 3 months straight.
Pictures, pictures, we want pictures! Time for a tour of your new town. We'll understand if all shots are taken in your apt. or from the interior of your car. Don't melt! We love you.
