I spent the last 10 days on vacation up in northern Puget Sound. My sister, courtesy of her in laws, got a condo on the water in Victoria B.C. My parents brought their boat over so I met up with them in Anacortes, then spent a couple of days sailing through the San Juan Islands on our way to Victoria. We spent several days in Victoria doing touristy things. I went out dancing and met a bunch of the local lindy hoppers, danced with them on a street corner, went hot tubbing, and ate poutine for my first time (it was quite good). The weather was unbelievable, which wasn't really very good, because it's really hard to talk myself out of trying to move up there. I just have to remember that winter in the pacific northwest coast is grey, wet, and will lead to depression. I missed my ferry coming back and had to take a later one, but everything worked out and I was still able to meet up with Byron and his wife, Leigh, in Seattle for about a day.
My parents had put the boat up for sale and found a buyer, so this was the fianl voyage on the family boat, that they have owned for about 30 years. It's harder to see it go than my childhood home, which is also on the market.
I also grew a vacation beard. Basically, I just didn't shave the entire time, although I did trim it up. I was planning on shaving it shortly after my return, but it's been getting good reviews, so I may keep it for a while.
