What summer weekends are for.

*WARNING* Due to large amounts of photos, this post is not dial-up friendly.

Most of the cities in Orange County have a summer concert series. Each week a different band plays at an outdoor park and they'll have vendors and food and often other entertainment. I check all of the cities close to me and typically go to several concerts throughout the summer. Friday was the first of the year for me, and since it was a swing band, Jumpin' Joz, a group of us that know each other from dancing met up and danced. It's kind of funny that once a few people get out onto an empty floor everyone realizes it's ok to dance. As a result, after a few songs the floor packed and you had to worry not only about other dancers, but about the short kids winding their way through the dance floor. They kept tripping and falling and I nearly stepped on a few. I don't have any photos of me yet, because I'm still waiting on others, but enjoy the pics of people you don't know.

Of course, after the concert we went dancing at Atomic as well. The next afternoon (Saturday) Collyn and I drove up to LA. She had a memorial for a local writer to go to. I went to a local park as she was kind enough to not expect me to attend also. Afterward we went to the Getty center as they have a summer concert series as well. It is a very different crowd as compared to Friday night. It's more adults, less families, and the music is more artsy which is to be expected. A good time was had. We spent the night at one her friend's in Northridge and went back to the Getty on Sunday to actually go through the museum. We were there for about 4 hours and didn't get to it all. There is a great outdoor garden and the architecture of the entire place is interesting and striking; a lot of light travertine. It feels like some sort of a modern city temple complex. There was a really great photo exhibit by August Sander that was an early 20th century portraits of a broad cross section of German citizens. I didn't take many photos, but here are a few.

We left the Getty a little after 4, because across L.A. there was a 20s outdoor music event going on at the Workman and Temple Homestead Museum in the City of Industry. We were meeting up with a couple of girls, because again, there was a swing band playing, so we went to dance. 20s dress was encouraged and Collyn and I had planned ahead and brought our outfits with us to the Getty. The grounds were stunning, with a koi pond, a large gazebo, some garden areas, a great sitting tree, and even a small family cemetery and mausoleum. Quite a few people dressed up, so it was a lot of fun to just walk around and people watch. We got our photo taken several times by others who were also strolling and people watching. At the end of it, I caught a ride home with the other girls and left Collyn up in LA as some friends of hers were coming in from out of town and they had plans to spend all of Monday together. Enjoy the pictures.
(Note: The beautiful woman in tangerine is Collyn and yes, I am actually dancing on a grave in the final photo.)
