Winter blahs

I haven't updated in a while because I haven't done anything exciting and new since Christmas. The soccer team has been chugging along and we are in 1st place in league, undefeated thus far. The bad news is that this means we are most likely going to make the play-offs, which means during my February break I will have to drive to school for practice each day.

We just finished finals and start the new semester tomorrow. My freshman did marginally ok, and it's looking that way in all of the freshman science classes. My AP kids did quite well, which is somewhat ironic because we have been dealing with a crazy parents who is whining about how she thinks my Calculus based, college level Physics course which follows an international standardized curriculum and assessment standard is too difficult and goes too fast. In an effort to add support to her cause she informally polled several of my students post exam and said they told her the exam was "impossible" so obviously she is right. Except that:
1. My final was simply an old AP exam, created by the college board and given to asses kids the world over on the material and
2. The average grade, holding to the AP scoring of 5,4,3,2,1 representing A,B,C,D,F in a comparable college class, the average grade was an 87%, or B+.

The parent isn't just going mad over my class. She's gone off about so many things in such inappropriate ways that the head of school set up a meeting with her to tell her to cease and desist. It's been frustrating and entertaining at the same time and every day brings a new twist. I'm really excited about how it all is going to play out.
