I felt like I should update this, but I don't have too much worth writing. So here's an update on what has been happening:
I have been designing and making desk lamps. Lamps is being generous because I only have one completed. I have another that needs mostly assembly work, and I have a few more mostly designed. And of course, I have several in the early idea stage. Once I get a few more done I will take pics.
Mom and Dad got here the other day. They got to meet Collyn as we had dinner with them yesterday, so they are the first of the family to meet her, which considering that we have been seeing each other for over 10 months is kind of surprising.
My soccer team has had a couple of good results and we are getting better as a team. I have been playing mostly left back, largely because I can run guys down and make clean tackles. I had a good game on our last outing, and had a couple of good shots. I tend to make a lot of runs, which then means I have to hustle back. It's keeping my heart and lungs active.
I have been taking some dance classes, one of them being tango. It's been fun. Collyn and I are trying to get to the point where we feel comfortable going out social dancing. With swing dancing, it's kind of expected that you will be goofy and awkward when new to the dance, and that is ok because swing dancing allows for goofy and awkward dancing. Tango?...not so much. It's tough being a beginner again. The good part is that since tango is based on walking with style, basic lead and follow technique applies so I am picking it up quickly. For some reason, during class I always end up standing at the break in the mirrors, so I never get to see if my dancing looks right, or if I am just clumping around.
I am still playing guitar for at least 30 minutes every day. I haven't missed a day since I started back in the first week of January. I know eventually I will be traveling somewhere and end up missing, but by this point I think I have it trained in as a habit. Yea for me, especially as it means I will get to reward myself with a new guitar at some point. Also, my washboard playing (Collyn saw one at a thrift store and got it for me for Christmas) is coming along nicely. If I get myself some better mandolin chops and then throw in the kazoo, the miracle of multi-track recording will turn me into a 1-man vaudeville band.

I can't wait to see pictures of your lamps. I love lamps. We only have one in our house but I wish we had more. I think they make a room look cozy. We would love to get to meet Collyn some time. Bring her and come and visit.
A few comments:
1. I'm excited to see the lamps. Maybe I can have you design one for my front room as I have had no luck finding one that I like. Can't wait to see picks.
2. We want to meet Collyn too. We think you should bring her for a visit when school gets out this summer.
3. I didn't know soccer involved tackling. Please explain.
4. Should we be anticipating another c.d.? Your first remains one of our favorites.
Yeah, where are the pictures?
farmerette,
My guess is that your kids will think the lamps are neat, but they aren't something you are going to want to display in your front room. Plus they're desk lamp size.
Tackling in soccer refers to sliding and/or stepping into the player with the ball to steal it from them. It involves body contact. This type of defensive play is responsible for most personal fouls during a match.
Yes, at some point I pln on doing some more recording, probably this summer. I don't think I'll make another cd, but rather just make the finished songs available for download.
