Just before our walk a small but extremely intense storm had rolled through. The skies were blue, and then the wind was blowing upwards of 70mph and the rain was coming down in sheets. We lost power within about 10s. The storm lasted about 15 minutes, slowly tapering off after the first couple of minutes. Then the skies went back to blue, the sun came out, and it was a glorious evening. Except that 125,000 people were without power and trees were down all over town. Those pictures were taken within a 1/2 mile stretch walking to the main business district. We didn't get power back until about 6 a.m. Monday morning and there are still roads closed and people without power in a few places. We have decided we should invest in a hand crank dynamo emergency radio and flashlight as well as a camp style L.E.D lantern. The nice thing is that we didn't really need the power. Our food did fine with a little extra ice added to the fridge, and we got to burn some of our over abundant supply of candles. Our stove is gas so we could still cook. We did spend a little time in a Starbucks trying to get an update online and charging up my cell phone as it was nearly dead when we lost power.
We thought a local jazz and blues record store called Underground Sounds hit the right note:

Man I miss Midwest storms. If you don't have one already, you may want to also invest in an emergency broadcast radio for tornado's. You can set them to go off whenever a tornado watch or warning is issued in your area. A good investment.
Welcome to the mid west (and east for that matter). We had a storm hit here last week that took out several big trees on post. A couple of houses and cars were damaged. Several car lots in the area are having "hail sales" because of the hail damage they received. Glad you got your power back now.
Beautiful neighborhood, minus the downed trees of course. Welcome to the midwest I guess. I loved the sign on the music store. Glad you are safe and that you didn't suffer any property damage. It really does look like a lovely place to live. Can't wait to see more pics.
We were talking to some people north of you and they said that a tornado did touch down in New Albany.
