A belated Halloween and the joys of fall.

I realized today that I haven't posted pictures of Halloween. I need to explain my costume. Collegiate's newspaper is named Pandemonium. The name goes back to the early days of the school and is a nod to Milton as he invented the word in referencing the capital of hell in Paradise Lost. I'm not sure why the name was chosen, but many years later someone decided to create a Panda mascot. The English chair, who has been at the school for 3 years now, was not a fan of the mascot, so in a digital revamp of the newspaper he decided to kill it off. The launching of the new online format included an obituary for Panda E. Monium. And now my costume:

I feel I must mention that I sewed the shirt part of the costume all by myself. Though I didn't sew the hat, I did add the tongue.

Last weekend we spent the day with a couple we befriended shortly after moving here. They are new to town as well, coming from Arkansas. We took in a tour of the Jim Beam distillery. We only took a couple of pics. The large building is one of many rick houses, where the barrels of bourbon are aged.

After the tour we ate some lunch and headed to Churchill Downs. the fall meet has started, and Sunday had a full afternoon of 10 races. We saw 6 of them from an amazing vantage point. We easily found seats right up against the track edge just shy of the finish line. When the horses took the track they trotted right by us during their warmup. Then, we had a perfect vantage point as they came down the homestretch. After the race, they would jog the horses to cool them down, and then brought them over to right in front of us to unsaddle them. I have no idea what Collyn was thinking, but she took scant few photos of the horses.

It was the best $6 ($3 gate fee for each of us) I have spent in a long time. We will definitely be going back.

Finally, I will leave you with a few pics of fall:
