Halloween

We started our Halloween fairly early.  We help organize and put on a swing dance on the third Saturday of every month.  This month it was a costume dance.  It is early for Halloween, but still in the ballpark.  Collyn and I spent some time during the week putting our costumes together.  This was made a bit easier because soccer ended, so I had a bit more time.  Thrifts store again came in handy, and again, some of my costume came from the women's section.  We decided to go with a couples costume, what with it being a dance and all, and considering we haven't done a couples costume before.

Not too bad, but you should see us from another angle.

That is my old cap gun on my hip.  I made a leather covered cardboard holster for it.  The caps still sort of work, so I shot it off a few times during the night.  Also, I feel I should note that I did my own make-up.  Yes, it took me a while, partly because I kept making small changes, but no major screw-ups or starting over.  Collyn sewed the frill on my shirt, and that was the only sewing that needed to be done.  I made the bolo tie from a pin she had, some string, and some 22 shell casing. I wanted to keep some stubble on the non-made up side of my face, so I'm actually half clean-shaven as well.  The make-up held up well, only running a little towards the end of the night as a result of working up a bit of a sweat while dancing.

I did the same thing on Halloween for school with some minor differences in the face make-up. It unnerved a few of my students, who had trouble making eye contact.  Mostly everyone was impressed that I had done my own make-up.

Last night we carved pumpkins.  We also toasted up the seeds and have been enjoying them. I debated hiding them from Collyn before leaving this morning out of fear that there wouldn't be any left when I got home.  There was, but Collyn admitted to having to stop herself to make sure that I still had some to eat.  You know it's love when they save you some pumpkin seeds.  Though she still eats all the good leftovers.
In case you can't tell what the upper pumpkin is, here is a brighter pic.
Collyn is quite proud of her Toy Story claw game alien.

Well I'm impressed! The costumes were awesome and when I saw them on facebook I assumed Collyn must have done the face painting for you. Way to go bro! Now my only question is about your cap gun. Was it your trusty dur-ringer? Glad you guys had fun and fyi, all leftovers belong to the women of the house! It's one of those lesser known laws of nature. I'm surprised you didn't know it considering you're a physics teacher.

Impressed that you did your own make-up because it was amazing.
