We have met the enemy...

and his name is George.

Collyn has been planting all week long.  She found some great deals on plants at a nursery so between the two of use we got those in the ground last weekend.  Then this week she has been transplanting plants from Kurt, a writer friend's, garden.  He has been thinning his plants and offering some to us.  The best part of it is that he gave us several raspberry canes.  Since Collyn also scored a blueberry, we are on our way to a decent berry patch.  We just need to get some blackberries, which we will likely do in the spring.

We didn't have classes today as it is the end of the quarter and we had the day to write comments.  I spent the morning working, and then we hit a coworkers place for some compost, as she has way too much for her needs.  We loaded up a couple of plastic bins with about 100lbs worth.  Then we stopped by Kurt's place again to get a few more plants.  We got some of those in the ground this afternoon.  The rest will go in tomorrow in the front yard around our mound where the spruce tree used to be.

I would show you pictures, but we also put down some cardboard to smother out some grass around the patio and weighed it down with some pavers, so right now it looks like we have trash scattered around.  In another week or two we are going to get some mulch and once the leaves to start falling we will gather them up for mulching and composting over the winter.

As to who George is, here are some pictures from this afternoon.

Notice his eyes are red.  Evil, I tells ya.

It apparently lives in our wood pile.  Collyn saw it earlier this week and it has been making regular appearances.  I chased it out of the yard the other day and threw some rocks at it hoping it would find a new place to live, but no such luck.  I wish I had a cat that could take care of it, but my cat is a weenie.  It's obscenely cute, but I will not be swayed.  It must go.

Definitely must go our it will eat your veggies and who knows what else next spring. When we moved here, I thought all of the wildlife was so cute but now it is a thorn in my side. Good luck.

What a laugh. I think you cat was also watching him out front while we were there. Good luck, you know how bunnies multiply.

Get a live trap (available at most animal shelters for borrowing) and catch it. Then you can decide weather to eat it, tame it, or release it far far away. Good luck!
