Still speedy in my advanced age.

What with yesterday being my birthday and all, I actually have a few things to write about. First of all, if you mention your birthday to a few freshman, it will be all over school within a day. Second, if you tell an inattentive freshman that he must atone for his misbehavior by bringing you birthday cake, preferably something lemon flavored, he will actually show up with one during conference, along with several friends, who will feel the need to document the entire thing with 10,000 photos, as well as video of you blowing out the candles. I'm not sure why. That was about as exciting as my birthday got, as I spent a quiet night at home grading, eating, and talking to Mom and Dad.

As many of you know, I'm making an effort to keep physical decline at bay. I started running a few years ago, and aside from soccer season, do it on a fairly regular basis, logging 15-25 mile a week, depending on what else I'm doing. Since I run on the beach and street I only get to approximate my mileage, and the included hills and stairs make it difficult to assess any sort of track pace. So today I went to the track at the high school. I'm proud to say that I was able to knock out my second mile in 5:50 and by the time I was done I had run 4.5 miles in a few seconds over 29 minutes, putting my pace at right around 6:30. It's not smoking fast, but considering I'm not a distance runner, am past my prime, and carry far too much upper body mass to ever be fleet of foot, I'm pretty stinking happy.

Also, here are a few pics of me that were taken at the cancer danceathon, dancing to 60s soul music in the side room:
